An old love story (short story)

Once upon a time and space, there lived a Queen and a King who loved and respected each other so much that they were one. The only veil of sadness in their life was the fact they couldn’t have children.

One day, an evil and powerful Wizard who was madly in love with the Queen told her that if she leaves the King, he will grant her wish of becoming a mother. The Queen refused and told the Wizard that nothing can make her separate from her King. The Wizard got so blinded with jealousy and rage that he cast a spell on them to separate them forever: he turned the Queen into Earth and the King into the Universe.

Time passed, and the Queen Earth and the King Universe tried to find ways of breaking the spell so they can be together again, but nothing worked. So, they decided to find ways of connecting to one another instead. The King created the Sun so that his Queen can still feel his love; the clouds and rain so she can receive his kisses, and the Moon and the stars to fill her nights with magic. The Queen, in turn, created Nature, who flowed with the rhythms of the Sun and the Moon and reflected her beauty in all its forms: flowing waters, plants and living beings of all shapes, sizes, and colours. The Queen was happy, for she was a Mother, at last, and all her children loved and respected her.

After a while, the Queen decided to create humans so that, they too, can be a part of Nature’s expression. But the evil Wizard found out about this. And, while the Queen was resting one day, he hid a small piece of darkness inside the humans; so hidden that they would not even be able to see it in themselves, only in others. When humans were born, they slowly learned how to live their life with their nature siblings as their teachers. All was well for a while until the darkness inside some of the humans started to grow. They became afraid of it and started to hurt each other. Then, slowly, they began to destroy their nature siblings as well. The Queen was heartbroken to see all her children like this, so she asked her King to help them.

The Stars heard the Queen’s plea and decided to help their Earthly siblings. From up there in the sky, they saw that the darkness was causing a lot of separation and hate. But the stars could not understand what it was like to be human, so they didn’t know how they could help. The King told the stars that they would have to be born as Earthy beings, either human or nature. They would have to forget who they were and live many lifetimes so that they can understand the darkness and learn how to change it into light. He assured them that they would never be alone on their journey, and they can ask for help and guidance from him and the Queen.

And so, some of the stars began their Earth journey and became humans. Many lifetimes passed until they began to see through the veil of illusion that the darkness was casting. They discovered that the only way to fight the darkness was to learn how to love truly. This was the same love that the Queen and King shared, because a piece of it was placed inside the humans before they were born. But just like with their hidden darkness, the humans were not aware that this love was hidden inside them either.

Once the human stars learnt how to love truly, the darkness got smaller and smaller, and they started to remember who they were. So, they began to teach their Earthly siblings how to do that too. Many say that when all the humans will learn how to love truly, the Queen and King’s curse will finally break, and they will be together again as one. And then, everyone on Earth and in the Sky will live forever in peace and love…
